RHP Casey Kelly threw 88 pitches (59 for strikes) in a start for AA-San Antonio today as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery, which cost him the entire 2013 season.

Kelly made his Major League debut in 2012, going 2-3 with a 6.21 ERA in six starts for the Padres at the tail end of the season and was named the team’s #1 prospect heading into last year.

Today in San Antonio, making his first AA start of the year, Kelly held Corpus Christi to one earned run (three total) on seven hits in six innings of work. He struck out two and walked one.

In two starts with Class-A Lake Elsinore prior to today, Kelly threw 8.1 innings and allowed four earned runs while striking out nine and walking none.
