Rest and Rehab Prescribed for Cashner
The next step for Andrew Cashner is rest.
The course of action recommended by Padres team physicians Monday after studying the MRI taken on the 27-year-old pitcher’s right elbow and forearm earlier in the day.
Cashner was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Saturday after coming forward and telling manager Bud Black that he was experiencing discomfort in his elbow and right forearm.
He was placed on the disabled list and had the MRI Monday following the team’s return from Colorado and the end of a six-game road trip.
“After performing an MRI today on Andrew’s right elbow, our doctors have indicated to me that he has elbow soreness and irritation,” said Padres general manager Josh Byrnes.
“Based on our doctors’ recommendation, we will be proceeding with rest and rehabilitation for his recovery.”
Cashner has a 2-5 record this season with a 2.35 earned run average in nine starts. He allowed one run on seven hits and a walk with six strikeouts in Cincinnati last Tuesday.
