Kennedy Scratched, Lane Selected From El Paso

jason laneAssistant general manager, A.J. Hinch spoke with the media earlier today and notified the media that Jason Lane will be selected from Triple-A El Paso and will make tomorrow’s start against the Braves. RHP Ian Kennedy has been scratched from the start but will not head to the disabled list.  A corresponding roster move will be made tomorrow to make room for Lane on the 25-man roster.

More updates:

  • Ian Kennedy is not going to start tomorrow as he has left oblique soreness. The situation rates low on the pain threshold but being cautious. The reason that Hinch announced was for obvious reaction with deadline around the corner. Injury came on a swing the other day in Chicago. He’s been playing catch and been fighting to pitch but hasn’t been able to.
  • The staff doesn’t want to take a risk with Kennedy tomorrow saying that, “This would’ve happened regardless of what month it is.”  and that it has nothing to do with the trade deadline. Kennedy won’t be heading to the disabled list. There is a chance to really knock this out with a couple days off.  This decision on not having him pitch is trying to do what’s best for the player.
  • Closing in on Thursday, people need to keep in mind that the July 31st is not the only time players are moved. There is a possibility something happens and a possibility nothing happens. During the last 48 hours of the deadline, you never know what could come up.
  • There are some concerns regarding Max Fried. He is having difficulty responding to the throwing program he is currently involved in. The team will bring him to  San Diego to have him revalued and get some tests done and figure out the next course of action. There isn’t a definite date on any exams but they will take place this week. There is concern on his elbow which will be evaluated during his exams. He didn’t come out of a start early but he reported it to his trainer at the Tin Caps. He has been evaluated in Fort Wayne and the staff in San Diego will take a deeper look.

Tune into FOX Sports San Diego and The Mighty 1090 for the call at 2:05pm this afternoon.
