What a day!

Opening_day

Ask anyone, anyone you know.  I don’t think they could have ever envisioned a better Season Opener for the San Diego Padres.  The franchise’s first shutout in a Season Opener?  Six scoreless innings from Jake Peavy?  A career-high four hits from Josh Bard?  Keeping Barry Bonds to an excuse-me single?  Are you kidding me?

If there was ever a day when everything went right for a team, yesterday was that day for the Padres.  I’d like to congratulate Manager Bud Black on his first career managerial victory.  Truly, it couldn’t have happened to a better person.

I know it’s only one game, one game of many.  But, at the same time, it’s hard not to get excited about this team.  Taking note of the potential on display in Spring Training and seeing it all come together yesterday brought a big smile to this Friar’s face.  Sure there’ll be bumps in the road as we progress through the season, but for right now, I think things are off to a very good start.

Anyone else out there who can’t wait for Friday night?
