What a homestand
If you're a Padres fan, then I can't think of a better way to celebrate Memorial Day weekend with the Padres earning their first series sweep of the season. The Padres took three straight from the National League Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers and have now won five consecutive series.
Although sweeps and extended winning streaks are always welcome, winning series is what's key. I have always believed that if you can win the home series and play close to .500 ball on the road, you'll be right in the thick of things come October.
So the Padres celebrate the holiday weekend with an 11-4 record over their last 15 games. And no, that wasn't a typo. We're talking about a .733 winning percentage over that 15-game stretch. I don't need a calendar to know it's May here in San Diego. In May of 2005, they went 22-6. Last year, they posted a 19-10 May record. With three games to go this month, they are 16-8.
So take the rest of the weekend off, Padres fans. Enjoy it. Relax, knowing that your red-hot San Diego Padres are once again back in first place in the National League West.
