Another roster move

Before departing for Chicago on yet another road trip, the Padres made one more roster move. Rookie utilityman Callix Crabbe was designated for assignment, which means he is off the active roster.

As a Rule 5 draft pick, Crabbe must remain on a Major League roster or be exposed to waivers and offered back to his former club, Milwaukee, for $25,000. There are reports the Padres are trying to work out a deal with the Brewers that would allow the Padres to send Crabbe to Triple-A.

More likely is a trade -- the Padres have 10 days to find a taker -- a waiver claim or a return to the Brewers organization.

Infielder Edgar Gonzalez, older brother of first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, was expected to join the team Monday in Chicago.
