This date in Padres history: October 9
1984: The Padres play the first World Series game in franchise history. They drop Game 1 to the Detroit Tigers 3-2 at Jack Murphy Stadium. Terry Kennedy's two-RBI double in the bottom of the first gives the Padres a 2-1 lead, but the Tigers go ahead in the fifth when Larry Herndon hits a two-run home run off Mark Thurmond.
