Much of manager Andy Green’s pregame media session Tuesday discussed the Padres long list of injuries.

There was a piece of good news. Infielder Alexi Amarista began his rehab assignment with Double-A San Antonio Tuesday night and went 2-for-5 with an RBI while spending time in the field at both second and third by design.

“Amarista played three of the last four days at extended spring training,” said Green. “He’s not far off from returning. (Yangervis) Solarte is not that far behind him.”

Amarista has been on the disabled list since April 20 with a hamstring strain. Solarte has been out since April 10 with a hamstring strain.

In another piece of good news, first baseman Wil Myers was back in the starting lineup Tuesday night after missing Sunday’s game in Milwaukee with a sore left forearm.

However, there was more bad news than good news on the injury front.

Center fielder Jon Jay is a new concern. He hurt his left shoulder making a diving catch in left-center last Friday night and missed a third straight start Tuesday night.

“Jay’s shoulder is still on the sore side,” said Green. “He hasn’t had full range of motion since then. It’s stiff.”

There was also bad news on second baseman Cory Spangenberg and right-handed pitcher Brandon Morrow.

“Spangenberg had a little bit of a setback,” said Green. “He has not been running. He has not been doing any baseball activity. He didn’t suffer a restrain. But he’s back to the rehab treatment on his quad. He was running and didn’t feel good.”

After six minor league starts, Morrow went to extended spring training but isn’t throwing at the moment. “Morrow felt less than ideal in his shoulder,” said Green. “We pulled him back. He’s trying to find out what is best for him going forward. He wasn’t feeling great. I don’t think a huge setback, just let’s take a step back.”

Right-hander Tyson Ross still isn’t on a throwing program yet, but Green said he might not be that far away from starting.

Meanwhile, Robbie Erlin had “Tommy John” reconstruction surgery on his left elbow Tuesday in Los Angeles. “I’m told everything is as it should be,” said Green.
