We’re number one! Well. Technically 15th out of 15 in the National League and 29th out of 30 in all of Major League Baseball, but somehow we’re still number one!

In a recent Wall Street Journal article where all 30 Major League Baseball teams had their fan bases’ grammar scrutinized, Padres fans were found to commit the 29th most grammatical mistakes when commenting and writing online. More specifically, Padres fans are found to commit an average of 4.4 mistakes per 100 words typed. This figure, when contrasted with the New York Mets (13.9 mistakes per 100 words) and the Philadelphia Phillies (13.5 mistakes per 100 words), stands out and has actually placed the Padres at the top of the National League for being proper and punctual when it comes to grammar. The entire ranking of all 30 teams can be found below:

While the Padres ranked at 29th worst overall (read: 2nd best overall), the Friars’ NL West rival Colorado Rockies fan base, for example, ranked in at the 8th worst (read: 22nd best). Both Padres and Indians fans ranked at the top of their respective leagues when it came to their mastery of the English language — which is ironic for San Diego, of course, given that their namesake isn’t even English.
