Right-hander Joe Ross, 21, the 25th overall pick of the 2011 draft, was one of three pitchers turning in strong performances in the Padres farm system Monday night.

Ross (7–4, 3.59 earned run average) allowed one run on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts in six innings for Single-A Lake Elsinore at Inland Empire.

Left-hander Juan Pablo Oramas , 23, (4–3, 5.96 ERA) celebrated his return to Triple-A El Paso by allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings at Omaha.

Right-hander Ernesto Montas, 22, saw his ERA shoot up to 0.46 when he allowed one run on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts in five innings for the Padres of the Dominican Summer League.

Meanwhile, seven players from San Antonio — right-handed pitchers James Needy, Adys Portillo and Luis De La Cruz; left-handed pitcher Frank Garces; catcher Austin Hedges; outfielder Rymer Liriano, and second baseman Casey McElroy — will be playing for the South Tuesday night in the 78th Texas League All-Star Game in North Little Rock, Ark.

Right-handed reliever Johnny Barbato was also named to the South team, but he is on the disabled list with elbow soreness.

Rich Dauer, who last season led San Antonio to its fifth Texas League title since 2002, will manage the South team. San Antonio will also supply the South coaches — Jimmy Jones (pitching), Francisco Morales (hitting), Dan Turner (trainer) and Eric Wood (strength and conditioning).

ON THE MOVE: Oramas was officially promoted from San Antonio to El Paso Monday to replace right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne, who was promoted to the Padres from El Paso. Outfielder Rod Boykin was promoted from the Arizona Rookie Padres to short-season Single-A Eugene. Right-handed pitcher Malcolm Diaz was transferred from the Dominican Summer League Padres to Arizona. Left-handed pitcher Franklyn Vargas signed with the DSL Padres.
