They say rest does the body good, and clearly an off-day does the same for a baseball club.

The Padres took game one of a three-game set against the Colorado Rockies last night, defeating the mile-high club by a score of 14–3 for the second time this season. The Swinging Friars beat the Rockies by the same score on April 20th against starter Jorge De La Rosa at Coors Field.

With yesterday’s victory in the books, here’s a look at some of the highlights from today’s game notes that can be read right here:

The early innings have been bountiful for the Padres offense, as the team scored it’s 23rd first-inning run yesterday. This gave San Diego the highest first-inning run total in the National League and the second-highest total in all of Major League Baseball. It seems natural for the team to score early in a game, given that the Padres are hitting a combined .346/.376/.587 line with eight doubles, five home runs and a triple in the first-inning of their first 24 games.

With these impressive numbers already under the team’s belt, the 2014 season continues to be nothing but a distant memory. Last season, the Padres scored a National League low 62 first-inning runs in 162 games with a .228 batting average and ten home runs.

While the first inning got the team going, the eighth inning put an exclamation point on the game for San Diego. The Padres scored 8 runs in the eighth inning last night, setting the bar for the most-runs scored in a single inning by the team this season. Similarly, the six hits that contributed to the eight runs set a season-high total for hits in a single inning as well.

Perhaps what was even more impressive was that the team became the first club in Major League Baseball this season to bat their entire lineup in an inning without making a single out. The Padres accomplished the same feat last season against the Chicago Cubs on July 24th in the sixth inning.
